Commission on Booking Supplements
Overview
Booking supplements let you apply markups, discounts, and other adjustments to a booking's cost. Previously, commission was calculated once at the point of sale and did not update when a supplement was added afterwards unless you manually applied the adjustment yourself.
Booking supplement rules now include a Commissionable setting. When this is switched on for a supplement rule, adding that supplement to a booking automatically adjusts the relevant commission line, using the distribution partner’s own commission rate for that element type. When it is switched off, commission behaves exactly as it always has, unaffected by the supplement.
Setting up a commissionable supplement
Configuration happens once, when a supplement rule is created or edited, in Financial Dashboard > Booking Supplements. It does not need to be repeated per booking.
Open the supplement rule you want to configure (or create a new one).
Switch on the Commissionable toggle.
Choose a Commission Element Type from the dropdown. This tells the system which commission line the supplement should affect.
Save the rule.
Existing supplement rules created before this change are set to non-commissionable by default, so nothing changes for a booking unless someone actively switches a rule on. Newly created rules also default to off.

How the commission adjustment works
When a commissionable supplement is added to a booking, the system checks the distribution partner’s commission rule for the matching element type and adjusts that commission line automatically:
Percentage commission rules: the adjustment is the rule's percentage applied to the supplement amount only, not to the booking's new total. A markup increases the commission line; a discount reduces it.
Fixed-amount commission rules: commission is unaffected by supplements, since there is no percentage to apply.
Non-commissionable supplements: no change to any commission line, exactly as before this update.
Example
Setup:
Supplement Rule: Accommodation Supplement - $50 Discount
Commission Rule: Accommodation Commission - 5%
Before adding the supplement:
Booking total: $410
Hotel Commission total: $21 (with one hotel line at $10.50)
After adding the supplement:
New booking total: $410 - $50 = $360
Commission adjustment: 5% of the $50 supplement = $2.50
Hotel Commission line item: $10.50 - $2.50 = $8.00
All other commission items are untouched since the supplement was scoped to Accommodation only
Only the discount amount is used to work out the adjustment, which is then subtracted from the existing commission line. The commission line is adjusted, not recalculated from scratch against the new total.
Multiple supplements added in sequence
Where several commissionable supplements are added one after another, each is calculated against the booking total at the moment it is added. The order in which supplements are applied affects the running total and should be considered when checking expected figures.
Element types with more than one commission line
Some element types (for example Accommodation, where a booking may include several hotel stays) can have more than one commission line. In this case, the full adjustment is applied to the first line under that element type.
Multi-currency bookings
If a booking is sold in a different currency to the one commission is recorded in, the supplement amount is converted to the commission currency first, and the rule's percentage is then applied to the converted figure.
Editing a supplement after it's added
If a commissionable supplement's price is changed after it has been added to a booking (for example, increasing or decreasing the sell price), commission adjusts again but only by the rate applied to the difference between the old and new amount, not by re-applying the rate to the full new value.
Manual commission adjustments
If a Commission Adjustment value is entered manually on the same edit as a commissionable supplement, the manual amount is applied on top of the automatic adjustment, the two are additive, not one overriding the other.
Edge Cases
No underlying rate to apply: if a booking's commission line has previously been changed by a manual adjustment, edited at the time of booking, or set via a group override, there is no rule percentage for the system to apply, so adding a commissionable supplement will not automatically adjust that line.
Fixed commission rules: commission on a fixed-amount rule never changes when a commissionable supplement is added, since a fixed rule has no percentage to apply against the supplement.
Overall Booking commission: adding a supplement against a specific element type (for example Accommodation or Tour Only) does not adjust the Overall Booking commission line, even where that line was originally calculated against the full booking total. Only a supplement configured with the Booking element type affects the Overall Booking line.
Commission tax: the tax treatment of the commission adjustment follows the commission rule's own tax setting, not the tax setting on the supplement itself.
FAQs
Do I need to update all my existing supplement rules?
No. All existing supplement rules remain non-commissionable by default, and behave exactly as they did before. You only need to update a rule if you want it to start affecting commission.
What happens if I add a commissionable supplement, but the booking doesn't have a commission rule for that element type?
Nothing changes, there's no matching commission line for the system to adjust, so the booking's commission stays as it was.
Can I still manually adjust commission after adding a commissionable supplement?
Yes. Manual Commission Adjustment values are applied on top of the automatic adjustment from the supplement, so you can still fine-tune the figure if needed.
Does this affect invoices and the Commission tab as well as the booking view?
Yes, the adjusted commission figure is reflected consistently across the booking's Commission tab, Account Summary, and Invoice.
What if I add several commissionable supplements to the same booking?
Each supplement's adjustment is calculated against the booking total at the point it is added, so adding supplements in a different order can produce a different running commission total.
